Life Coaching is a practice aimed at helping clients determine and achieve
personal goals. Life Coaching is not
targeted at psychological illness and coaches are neither therapists nor
consultants. Life Coaching (also known as Personal Coaching) is a relationship
which is designed and defined in a relationship agreement
between a client
and a coach. It is based on the client's expressed interests, goals
and objectives.
What Is the
Role of the Life Coach?
A professional coach may use inquiry, reflection, requests and discussion
to help clients identify personal and/or business and/or relationship goals in
an effort to develop strategies, and action plans intended to achieve those goals.
A coach provides a means for clients to be held accountable
to themselves by monitoring the clients' progress towards the implementation of
their action plans.
Together they evolve and modify the plan to best suit
the client's needs and environmental relationships. Coaches often act
as human mirrors
for clients by sharing outside and unbiased
perspectives. Coaches may teach specific insights and skills to empower the
client toward their goals. Clients are responsible for their own achievements
and success. The client takes action, and the coach may assist, but the coach
never leads or does more than the client.
Benefits of
Life Coaching
Life Coaching can benefit anyone who wants to make a leap forward
with specific personal goals be it career growth or weight loss. Life coaching enables clients to:
- Get to the root cause of problems quickly that hamper success
- Balance business and personal life
- Re-design their life to make it the way they really want it
- Enhance self-confidence
- Get past personal blind spots
- Overcome procrastination
- Enhance health, energy and performance
Ideal Client
- Women and Men going through a transition
(divorce, want to lose weight, job change)
- Individuals who are motivated to change
- Individuals who need help creating goals and
sticking to them
- Individuals who want to get feedback about
the issues they have in their lives
How Do Coaching
Sessions Work?
The goal of a Life Coach is to provide feedback, guidance, set a
goal plan, and hold the client accountable to the goals they have set and the
steps that they need to take. Life Coaching sessions can take place in
different ways; the most common is via email and telephone. This allows for
flexibility and anonymity that many clients in today’s society desire. Email
and Telephone coaching can take place whenever, and wherever the Coach and
client may be geographically.
